PAULA FIGUEIROA REGO
Paula Figueiroa Rego is a Portuguese painter, illustrator and printmaker, who has lived in Britain since 1951. She was born in Lisbon to a rich family, during Salazar’s regime, which would be a later influenced in her work. Paula and her husband, Victor Willing, divided their time between Portugal and England until 1975, when they moved to England permanently.
Mixing different techniques with paint and collage, playing with children, fetishists and traumatic images.Her work often features a sinister face, emphasizing malicious domination and subversion of the natural order. It deals with controversial social realities.
