‘We want to believe we are safe, I want to evoke anxiety. My works start from the concern about the human desire for violence. For some time now, my paintings show what is destroyed or recreated by this desire. The paintings re-examine images taken from the internet, films, news papers or magazines, which I place in surrealistic, sometimes haunting settings. By painting these ghostly tableaus I express the human fear of falling into oblivion and the violent desire to cultivate a visual trace of the self."JA
