TOMASZ ALEN KOPERA

Tomasz Alen Kopera was born in Kozuchow, Poland in 1976. He attended the University of Technology in Wroclaw, where he gained a degree in Engineering. Tomasz paints in oil on canvas. Human nature and the mysteries of the Universe are his inspiration. Each painting motivates thought, challenging our initial response. Sometimes darkness will prevail, at other times, light. He is celebrated in visionary art circles for his acute attention to detail, mastery of color and bold use of subject matter.

Since 2005 resides in Ireland where he works in his studio.

From 2010 member of "Libellule Group" formed by Lucas Kandl.

VICTOR BAUER

"My name is Victor Bauer and I consider myself a self taught artist.  My father was a painter, and I grew up playing in his studio, drawing and experiencing with colors. My earlier works were mostly abstracts and during these years I developed my own style and technique using mostly just palette knife. My fascination with the human figure for its timeless sensitivity reflected in my latest works. In my paintings I try not only just to replicate a scene, but to create the mood and feelings. Sometimes, when I feel it, I incorporate abstract fragments in a composition. I start with a drawing. When I’m satisfied with a composition, I begin to apply the paint in bold strokes with a palette knife. My knife strokes are deliberate, strong and well placed. The goal is to be precise and minimal to create work that is striking and simple yet. The painting becomes almost like of 3D sculpting. I take away what is not important but concentrate on proportions and light.

Meusa's Favourite Lake can be found in the northern Tanzania. A rare phenomenon caused by the chemical composition of the lake petrified creatures creating macabre but fascinating statues.

The new book by Nick Brandt, "Through the devastated land," features images of petrified animals found around Lake Natron , which due to its constant pH of 9 to 10.5 ( extremely basic alkalinity) retains these creatures for all eternity .

“I unexpectedly found the creatures – all manner of birds and bats – washed up along the shoreline of Lake Natron in Northern Tanzania. No-one knows for certain exactly how they die, but it appears that the extreme reflective nature of the lake’s surface confuses them, and like birds crashing into plate glass windows, they crash into the lake. The water has an extremely high soda and salt content, so high that it would strip the ink off my Kodak film boxes within a few seconds. The soda and salt causes the creatures to calcify, perfectly preserved, as they dry. I took these creatures as I found them on the shoreline, and then placed them in ‘living’ positions, bringing them back to ‘life’, as it were. Reanimated, alive again in death.” – Nick Brandt
